Name: Robyn

Message: i thought that i just read somewhere that you can now file for disability (for CFS)even if you have a job (to cover medical bills or if your disability keeps you from doing a job in which you would earn more money) - is this true?

Subject: A ArthritisSupport (ProHealth) Customer Question
Name: Attorney at Law, Scott Davis

Hi,
Thanks for contacting me. I think you have it partially correct. Generally speaking, you are considered disabled and unable to work if you are making $700 or less per month. If you make more than that amount per month SSA will presume you are not disabled and able to work, your claim will be denied.
The ruling you are referring to is Social Security Ruling 99-2p which addresses Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. The ruling is SSA’s formal policy statement that CFS is a medical diagnosis that can be the basis for a finding of disability; however, be aware that no one is found disabled on the basis of a diagnosis alone, the real issue will be the severity of your symptoms and limitations.
