Pharmaceutical manufacturer Pfizer Inc. has announced the addition of four leading medicines for older Americans to a discount prescription plan available to qualified Medicare beneficiaries. The Pfizer Living Share Card program offers Medicare recipients up to a 30-day supply of prescription medicines for a flat fee of $15 per prescription.
Enrollees in the share card program will have access to Celebrex ®(celecoxib capsules) and Bextra® (valdecoxib tablets), COX-2 specific inhibitors most often used to treat osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. In addition, plan members may obtain Detrol® LA (tolterodine tartrate extended release capsules) and Xalatan® (latanoprost ophthalmic solution), the most prescribed treatments for overactive bladder and elevated eye pressure associated with open-angle glaucoma respectively.
“Arthritis is a painful and physically debilitating chronic illness that affects approximately 70 million Americans. For many of these patients, timely and appropriate use of prescription medicines can significantly alleviate pain associated with arthritis,” said Dr. Dorothy Estes, Board Member of the New York Chapter of the Arthritis Foundation and Clinical Professor of Medicine at the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. “I encourage eligible Medicare beneficiaries to learn about the Pfizer for Living Share Card program, which offers meaningful health benefits.”
Lipitor® (atorvastatin calcium), Norvasc® (amlodipine besylate) and Celebrex® (celecoxib capsules) are among the top 10 most prescribed medications utilized by seniors in America.
“Today, we are enhancing the value of the Pfizer Share Card program by increasing access to some of the most well-known and widely prescribed medicines for eligible Medicare beneficiaries,” said Forest Harper, Vice President, Pfizer for Living Share Card program.
In addition to the $15 prescriptions, enrollees have access to a 24-hour call center with live operators to learn about other health services and benefits and to request free health education materials on 16 common medical conditions that affect many seniors. There is no enrollment fee.
